Lanes

Organize tasks by team, trade or work area

Lanes are horizontal rows on the planning board that represent work areas or types of work. They help teams visually organize tasks and collaborate more effectively. Each lane has a name, color and date range — and can be customized or rearranged as needed. 

Add a lane 

To create a new lane: 

  1. Click Add lane in the menu on the left side or right-click any lane title (or press and hold on touch displays) and select Add lane in the contextual menu.
  2. In the dialog, configure the:
    • Lane name — Pick a name that’s unique. Duplicate lane names are not permitted. Adding an extra character to a repeated area name may be necessary. For example: 1st floor E, 1st floor W.
    • Start and end dates — Define the time frame for the lane in the calendar.
    • Color — Select a lane color. Colors already in use are marked with an X. You can still reuse them if desired.
  3. Click Save to apply changes or Cancel to discard. 

Note: Duplicate lane names will compromise data accuracy and result in the reporting not functioning properly. 

 

Edit a Lane

To modify an existing lane:

  1. Right-click on the lane title (or press and hold on touch displays).
  2. Select Edit Lane from the contextual menu.
  3. Update the lane's:
    • Name
    • Start and end dates
    • Color
  4. Click Save to apply changes or Cancel to discard.

Move a lane 

You may need to change the order of lanes to prioritize their visibility or to align them with your team’s preferences. To reorder the lanes in your plan: 

  1. Right-click (or press and hold) the lane title. 
  2. Select Move up or Move down in the menu. 
  3. You can also move the lane to the top or bottom of the plan by choosing Move to top or Move to bottom

Copy a lane 

Copying a lane is useful when replicating similar sequences — for example, when planning identical workflows across multiple floors of a building.  

To duplicate the structure of an existing lane: 

  1. Right-click (or press and hold) the lane title. 
  2. Select Copy lane in the menu. 
  3. In the copy dialog, set: 
    • A new lane name 
    • The number of days in time to offset the activities 
    • The lane color 
  4. Click Save to complete the copy or Cancel to discard.
    • Tag statuses
    • Dependencies that point to or from other lanes 

Note: The copied lane will not include: 

  • Tag statuses
  • Dependencies that point to or from  other lanes

Delete a lane 

To remove a lane from your plan: 

  1. Right-click (or press and hold) the lane title. 
  2. Select Delete lane in the contextual menu. A confirmation dialog will appear, displaying: 
    • The number of tags and milestones associated with the lane. 
    • A warning: “Deleting this lane will affect report history accuracy.” 
  3. Confirm the deletion to proceed, or cancel to retain the lane. 

Caution: Deleting a lane is irreversible and will impact historical data and reports. Ensure you have reviewed the implications before proceeding.
