PPC and Reasons for Variance Reporting

How to generate in-app reports on Percent Plan Complete (PPC) and Reasons for Variance

What is Percent Plan Complete (PPC)?

PPC (Percent Plan Complete) is a core Lean construction metric that tracks how many planned activities were completed as intended. It helps teams measure their ability to plan and deliver on commitments. Those with Plan admin and Edit all permission levels can access the report tab.

At the end of every week, each activity is marked as:

  • Not started — planned
  • Done — completed on time
  • Not done — planned but not completed
  • Closed — confirmed completed

PPC is calculated as: (Number of done activities ÷ Total committed activities) × 100%

Note: Marking the status of the tags is important because it provides information to help the team see the progress of activities and make adjustments or improvements as necessary.

What are Reasons for Variance?

When an activity is marked as Not done, a reason must be selected. These are referred to as reasons for variance — they help identify and track recurring blockers such as missing materials, labor shortages, late approvals and design issues.

Analyzing these reasons provides insight into systemic project challenges and opportunities for improvement.

Viewing the PPC and reasons for variance report

To view PPC data and variance insights:

  1. In the menu on the left, click Reports.
  2. The Reports view will open. By default, you will land on the first tab: PPC and reasons for variance.

Understanding the layout

The report view is divided into two sections:

  1. Weekly PPC (upper section)
    • A weekly timeline shows a bar graph of activity statuses:
      • Not started
      • Done
      • Not done
      • Closed
    • Each week’s bar includes a legend on the left with the count or percentage for each status.
  2. Reasons for variance (lower section)
    • Each week listed shows a count of reasons logged when activities were marked Not done.

    • Reasons are visualized as horizontal bars with a value from 1 to 20.

      • If any reason exceeds 20 occurrences, it will be marked as +20.

    • If no reasons were submitted for a particular week, that section will remain empty.

Note: Both PPC and reasons for variance update dynamically as different weeks in the timeline are selected.
